The US is the third largest country in the world. Counting all territories it is about 100,000 km smaller than Canada. China and the US "compete" for the 3rd largest country size. China claims land along with other countries so these cannot be counted as China's size, but if it was then China would be larger. however, the US has a much longer coastline than China and if coastline claims were measured, the US would surpass China in size, so basically the US is larger than China.

Taipei is a city, not a country. It is the capital of the country known as Taiwan or the Republic of China. This is different to the People's Republic of China, that most people think of as being China. It claims Taiwan, but Taiwan is independent. It is a constitutional republic and people can vote, so it is democratic. It is not communist.
