The national and local representatives in the government of Israel are elected
by popular vote, and all citizens of the country have the right to vote, regardless
of their gender or religion.
Since more than half of Israel's population are Jewish, the majority (but by
no means all) of the elected representatives and other national and local
government officials of Israel wind up being Jews.
It has to be stressed, though, that this doesn't mean that others are shut out.
A good example is the court that convicted a former president of Israel of corruption
and sentenced him to do prison time. The judges of the court included a Jewish
man, a Jewish woman, and a Palestinian Muslim man.
