If it is an inappropriate gift then no it is not rude.
Not sure about the BEST but a great gift is a goal planner. Marriage is a point in one life where as both an individual and part of a couple it's important to really think about what we want to make with the rest of our lives. You can buy a well designed goal planner at AGoalPlanner.com I think they only cost 10 bucks and it has never failed me as a gift in the past.
Unless your girlfriend is an adult and/or your fiance, this sort of gift may be too "personal" a gift for you to give her. Her parents my consider this inappropriate.
It would depend on the occasion. If you are giving as a wedding present, anniversary gift, baby shower gift, graduation, retirement - or just because you want to give a gift... these are acceptable. However, if they in celebration of a holiday that Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate - it would be inappropriate for you to give one.
If you had a close working relationship with them during the planning process, it would be nice to get them a small gift to show appreciation but don't feel obligated. A heartfelt thank you card and promising to be a great reference in the future will do just as well. Also a Master card gift card is also nice.
Given the number of previous weddings that have happened I would think any gift other than your best wishes would be inappropriate.
