While milkshake-type drinks have existed for quite some time all over the world as frappes or nog drinks. However, the modern ice cream and flavored (chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry) blended drinks have only existed since 1922.
In 1922 the owner of Stevens Electric Company patented the electric blender and in cooperation with the Arnold Electric Company manufactured drink mixers designed to make Horlicks malted milk shakes at soda fountains. Hamilton Beach, the American appliance manufacturer, built and distributed the Stevens blender.
In 1937 Fred Osius, one of the founders of Hamilton Beach, approached Fred Waring, the promoter of the Miracle Mixer, and together they developed the Waring Blendor (no typo there). Also in 1937 W.G. Barnard founded the Vitamix Company that has been building industrial versions of the Waring Blendor using a stainless steel jar instead of the glass jar used by Waring.
The milkshake that we know today is therefore a uniquely American invention.

A milkshake would qualify as a solid. A fish swims in a liquid (water). If a fish was stuck in a milkshake it wouldn't be able to swim because it's a solid. Therefore a milkshake qualifies as a solid.
