What is a Slurpee made of?

Here is the ingredients label from Seven-Eleven for it's Coca-Cola Classic flavored Slurpee. Different flavors will have slightly different ingredients:

High fructose corn syrup and/or sucrose, water, caramel color, phosphoric acid, natural flavors, caffeine, quillaia, and yucca extract.

After all ingredients are taken into a liquid form, they dump them into their section of the wonderful, magical Slurpee Machine, which is basically a freezer. But what keeps it from becoming a block of ice? A stirrer inside the Slurpee machine keeps it moving so it never stays in the same place giving it that slushy texture.

How much does a barback make?

The pay really depends on the house (bar). The house will usually pay a barback an hourly rate plus 10-20% of all earned tips.

That depends a lot on how much total revenue the bartenders bring in. When all is said and done, the bartenders are the ones who pay out the barbacks. Usually the pay out percentage is between 15%-20% of the total tips the bartenders earn. So, for instance if the bartenders earn $200 per bartender in tips, and say, there are 6 bartenders, then you'll be paid out, let's say 15% of $1,200, which is $180. Not too bad.

What did people drink in Shakespeare's time?

Actually neither coffee nor tea were available in Britain before 1650, well after Shakespeare's day. Mild ale was safer to drink than water and much more common. From Shakespeare's works, and especially in the dialogues of the notorious tipplers Sir Toby Belch and Sir John Falstaff we know that an extremely popular drink was sack, fortified dry white Spanish wine, the modern equivalent being Sherry. Sometimes this was heated by thrusting a hot poker into it, and in such cases it was called "burnt sack". Sir Toby says "Come, come, I'll go burn some sack. 'Tis too late to go to bed now." Twelfth Night, Act II Scene 3)

Soups and Stews

What is soup a food or a drink?

Any beverage that contains protein, carbs, minerals and vitamins, etc. is a food.

Soup is served as a beverage in Chinese culture, during the meal--not tea.

Soup is versatile. It can be served as a food and is most often classified as one, but it can be drunk as a beverage.

Think of it this way, soup is a combination of various sizes, flavors, and types of food floating in a complementative drink, which is why most people do not accompany their soup with a beverage. However, there are soups heavy, and thick enough to be considered a solid food, and ones light enough to, as mentioned above by another user, be considered a drink, such as broths.

What makes soda or a soft drink so addictive?

Colas and some other soft drinks will have caffeine in them which can be mildly addictive, however a short period of abstinence from colas will at the worst cause a mild headache for a day or two.

I believe that the combination of caffeine and sugar magnifies the effects of both ingredients.

But peer pressure plays it's part as well.

The Difference Between

What is the difference between purified water and distilled water?

AnswerThe Difference between purified water and distilled water is that purified water has been filtered to certain specifations depending on whoever or whatever is filtering the water. It may include different minerals that naturally exist in water. Distilled water is what scientist use to do experiments or what you would put into your iron. Distilled water contains absolutely nothing else. It is Pure H2O and when boiled or steamed will leave behind no impurities or minerals. Distilled water can actually kill you if you drink too much of it. Because of its property of having nothing else to it, it will cause an imbalance in your cells swell and burst. It has the opposite but same effect of drink sea water. It will dehydrate you. But it is perfect for scientific or cleaning purposes. Not for drinking!

Dr. Pepper

Is Dr Pepper a Pepsi or Coke product?

It is neither. Although, Dr Pepper became insolvent in the early 1980s, prompting an investment group to take the company private. Several years later, Coca-Cola attempted to acquire Dr Pepper, but was blocked from doing so by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Around the same time, Seven Up was acquired from Phillip Morris by the same investment company that bailed out Dr Pepper. Upon the failure of the Coca-Cola merger, Dr Pepper and Seven Up merged (creating Dr Pepper/Seven Up, Inc., or DPSU), giving up international branding rights in the process. After the DPSU merger, Coca-Cola obtained most non-U.S. rights to the Dr Pepper name but, did not fully take the product.

Why can't you mix milk and orange juice?

If you mix milk, orange juice, and a pinch of sugar, you get a drink that tastes a bit like a Dreamsicle. However, it needs to be drunk quickly, because the orange juice has a high acid content and can curdle the milk and make it sour. Be careful when you mix the two.

What is the difference between whole milk and sterilized milk?

You are talking about 2 different things. Whole milk is milk that has not been "skimmed" or had its milk fat removed. Whole milk contains about 4% milk fat, while reduced-fat milk varieties may contain 1 or 2% milk fat. Skim milk has no milk fat left, and is also called "fat free" milk.

Pasteurization is the sterilization process by which foods, including milk, are treated in order to kill pathogens which can cause disease. Any variety of milk may be pasteurized. In fact, whole, 2%, 1% or skim pasteurized milk are widely available in most grocery stores in the United States and Canada.
