New york is not a country
The first capital of the U.S.A was Philadelphia. It was not New York. Plus New york was known as New Amsterdam, and it was the capital during the American Revolution, at which point we were not a unified country. Philadelphia was our capital when we announced our freedom from Britain becoming a country. Anybody who says New york was the first capital is absolutely wrong!
New York was originally called "New Amsterdam". Because of the Duke of York it was given a new name. He gained control of New Amsterdam in the 17th century and changed the name.
The purpose of New York's Children First Program is to improve schools in New York. This program gives more power and control to school principles with the goal of improving student performance.
