The Polynesian culture flourishes equally well in both Samoa and in the

territory of American Samoa. Western Samoa as Samoa was once named

exhibits a more cosmopolitan flavor. It was discovered by the French, it

was administered by the Germans and after WW-1 it was managed by

New Zealand. Each nation left it's mark on this island nation.

American Samoa was blessed or cursed with a world class bay that was a

frequent Port of Call for US naval vessels and it absorbed the worst and

the best that it was offered.
