The two supercontinents present today are America and Afro-Eurasia. However, they did not derive exactly from Pangea. The continents today did not come into place until about 50 million years ago.

Did the tectonic plates separate Pangaea?

The plate tectonics are the mechanisms that started to drift Pangaea (super continent) into separate continents 200billion years ago into the continents we have today. :D

Did Pangaea ever really exist?

Nobody really knows if Pangaea really existed. People believe it did because if you shift the continents, it looks like it could make Pangaea. There are many other reasons, but that is the most common.

Does earth's surface stay the same?

No, the surface changes. Erosion from rain and wind will gradually make mountain ranges lower; continents move; this movement creates new mountains, as the continental plates push against each other. For example, several million years ago, most continents were together, in one supercontinent, "Pangaea". I suggest you read an encyclopedia (e.g., en.wikipedia.org) article about plate tectonics; also about Pangaea or Pangea. No, the surface changes. How do earth effect the earth?

There are plate tectonics in earth and when they move, earth quakes happens. Sometimes the plate tectonics can move a continent. This is called the continental drift. Earth quakes can make volcanoes explode, tsunamis happen, and continents break. For example: The continent Pangaea. Because of the plate tectonics that caused earthquakes, tsunamis, and continents braking apart, the Pangaea broke up in to more continents and the continents broke into even more. That is why there are 7 continents in the world now. Earth quakes don't cause all these. Plate tectonics does. Plate tectonics makes earth quakes. Then, other horrible stuff happens.

How many ways can you make Pangaea?

There are numerous ways.

Why is the earth prone to the earthquake?

Because, all the continents are slowly moving. Years from now all the continets will colide to make a super continent. Its a cycle

How many continents are there in there?

Well, originally there are 5 continents. However, counting Oceania and Antarctica make it 7 continents.
