The stomach
The mouth is at the beginning of the alimentary canal (digestive tract). The teeth in the mouth cut, tear and grind food and the salivary glands add mucous to moisten the food plus there are also some enzymes that are made in the mouth that start digestion.

The teeth which crush food are called molars; the teeth which cut food are the incisors.
My mom had her vagus nerve cut in the process of ulcer surgery in 1978. Along with cutting the nerve, they removed her gall bladder and appendix. While it seemed to have helped the ulcers, it created a whole new set of problems that get worse over the years. The simpliest manifestation is her comment after eating that the food "seems to just sit on my stomach" - something it actually appears to do. In reading, it appears to have have had a negative effect on her entire digestive system and from reading may have an affect on blood pressure and even speach. Additionally, as there is not reversal, the problems just seem to be getting worse as she ages.
The Mouth is the first part of the body involved in the digestive system. >> The Teeth cut, chop and grind the food. >> The Saliva in the mouth contains certain enzymes that start the chemical break down of the food. >> The Mouth then delivers the partially digested food to the Esophagus to be carried to the Stomach for the subsequent steps.
Mastication (when teeth cut and grind food) is a physical change.
