Vladimir Ilyich lenin (Ulyanov) was effectively removed from power in 1922 by the first of a series of strokes. Since he had failed to name a successor, the USSR was run by a "Committee of Three" including Grigory Zinovyev, Lev Kamenev and Joseph Stalin. Stalin held effective power at this time because he was already Party General Secretary. There is a little doubt as to what exactly happened from here on because many records were "corrected" to reflect the preferred political views of the time, but suffice to say that by the end of 1929, only Stalin was left of the "Committee of Three" and he had managed to get rid of the remainder of his potential competition from the party. Both Grigory Zinovyev and Lev Kamenev were executed in 1936. The rest is history and Stalin allegedly died of a stroke, possibly on the 5th of March 1953, thereby resigning his leadership of the USSR. Exact dates, even if they do exist, are not reliable.

∙ 14y agoStalin, pronounced STAH lihn, Joseph, was dictator of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R.) from 1928 until 1953. He rose from bitter poverty to become ruler of a country that covered about a sixth of the world's land area. Stalin ruled by terror during most of his years as dictator. He allowed no one to oppose his decisions. Stalin executed or jailed most of those who had helped him rise to power because he feared they might threaten his rule.

∙ 15y agoI can tell you the year, but not the month or day. Stalin gained power after the death of VI Lenin in 1924.
Yes, Mikhail Gorbachev was the last Communist leader of the USSR. Moreover, Gorbachev was the last leader of the USSR, period, as the USSR ceased to exist in 1991 while Gorbachev was in power - and thanks in no small part to Gorbachev's reforms of the late 1980s.
Stalin's rise to power in Soviet Russia is hard to date. He wasn't the head of state until 1941, but he was general secretary of the communist party from 1922, and de facto leader from the late 1920s. The British monarch throughout the 1920s was George V, he died in 1936 and was succeded by his son Edward VIII. Edward abdicated before his coronation in favour of his brother George VI. George VI died in 1952 and was succeded by his daughter Elizabeth II. Stalin Died in October 1952, before Elizabeth II's coronation, but after she ascended the throne.
Stalin was born on December 21, 1879 in Gori, Georgia.
There has been no specific date of the end of the cold war due to this being the only war where smaller wars were fought within. e.g. Vietnam. My opinion and those of other university graduates would be that the USSR collapsed in 1990 or 1991
After Lenin's death in 1924, there were two contestants for the post of head of the communist party: Staline and Trotsky. 3 years later, in 1927, Staline becoem ruler for he had more connections with the soldiers, he banished Trotsky to Siberia and later killed him, in 1940, in Mexico.
Joseph Stalin was a man, not a country. You probably want to know the population of the USSR at a given date.

If you are a girl: You can pick between Mccoy or Camu from the Victory Gang. You can only pick which one to date after you become the Victory Gang leader. If you are a boy: You can date Amelia. But I am a girl, so I don't know when you get to date her... Sorry. :(
Short answer: Stalin Long answer: At the time of Lenin's death there were a few prominent party leaders that all could have potentially seized power. They are Stalin, Kamenev, Zinoviev and Trotsky. Lenin's final testament labeled Trotsky as his preferred successor, however this was never released to the public. Seeing Trotsky also as the most popular member (also with the army behind him), he was dubbed the biggest threat by Stalin and an alliance was formed between Stalin, Kamenev and Zinoviev to take down Trotsky. This was successful and Trotsky lost most power, his influence and eventually was exiled between 1928 - 1930 (just going off of memory). Stalin was the most adequate leader and maneuvered himself within the alliance of Kamenev and Zionoviev to become the prominent party member. Both of these men would later end up date, certainly at the behest of Stalin.
