The Catholic Church is traditionally believed to have been organized immediately after the death of Jesus Christ. St. Peter, one of Jesus' apostles, is recognized as the first pope of the Church, and the other apostles were considered Church leaders and priests. They were appointed during Jesus' lifetime, and after his death they began preaching and teaching his message.

Another View:

The Bible is clear in Acts 2:1-4, that the Church began in Jerusalem, on a Sunday that some have dated to 17 Jun 31 AD. This was Pentecost and it means '50' in the Greek. So the dated changes but is always the day after the Sabbath - a Sunday.

Jesus resurrected in the late daylight hours of the Sabbath from the tomb - our calendar is Saturday. He was seen in the early dark hours of the '1st day of the week' or Sunday by the women. This was the first Sunday after the 1st Sabbath of the Feast of Unleavened Bread - a Festival/High Holy Day/Feast of God celebreated for a week. One must count 50 days from this first Sunday (day 1) to come to the calendar date of the Pentecost. (Note: mainstream Christianity does similar for Easter).

At the start of the New Testament Church, it was the Apostle Peter who spoke out forcibly, touching and convicting many gathered there for the Feast via the Holy Spirit which had begotten the Apostles and other disciples. About 3,000 were converted by Peter's words (see Acts 2:38-41). Some believe Peter and the other Apostles were forced out of the Jerusalem area about 10 years after this date and began their 'messenger' ministries spreading Christianity around. Indeed, Peter is said to be in Babylon in 1 Peter 5:13 but there is debate over whether this is in Babylonia or 'Babylon Fortress' in Egypt (aka Babylon Egypt, Coptic Cairo, Old Cairo) where Mark (mentioned in 1 Peter 5:13) is the Head of the Church of God in Alexandria - who is martyred there in circa 68 AD.

Did Jesus Christ founded the church?

In the book of Matthew chapter 16 verse 18 you can read "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it." Answer Yes Christ organized His church calling Peter, James and John to be the First Presidency of the church. The church WAS NOT organized on Peter, but upon revelation which Peter had when he said that Jesus was the Christ. Only by revelation can one know that Jesus is the Christ. This was how Peter knew, but the church was not built upon him. The church was Christs and His alone and still is.

What is the difference between Latter Day saints and the reformed latter-day saints?

There is no church called the "Reformed" Latter-day Saints, perhaps you are thinking of "Re-organized"? The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints broke off of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the death of Joseph Smith. Since 1999, the Reorganized Church has been called the Community of Christ. There are many differences between the Community of Christ and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While they share the first 15 years of their church history, it is often told with slight differences. The Community of Christ has about 250,000 members with headquarters in Independence, Missouri. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has about 14,000,000 members with headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. The official websites of both churches are listed below under "Related Links".

Is 'the rock a Mormon?

There has been much debate as to who or what Christ was referring to when He said "Upon this rock..." The Catholic church say that He was referring to Peter as being the Rock on which He (Christ) would build His church. Mormons believe that when Christ asked Peter who he was and Peters reply was "The Christ...". Christ then referred to this knowledge as being given to Peter by revelation, and this was what Christ meant when He said "Upon this Rock.." meaning the Rock of Revelation". As Mormonism was not organized at the time of Peter he was a disciple of Christ and a member of His flock. He later became the President of the church along with James and John as his counselors. BUT the church was nor built upon Peter, he was only its first President.
