She left them because she felt as though her biological family wasn't a real "family". As you read in the book, after about 2 months, all she got was a hug and a couple of smiles. They obviously didn't show a lot of emotions. A real family would show a lot and be very happy that she was there. They weren't. Her father treated her like she was worthless and was only happy when she agreed with what he said. With the crew on the Seahawk, they actually cared more than her real family did when she actually was going to leave the next day. They hugged her, said loving and kind things to her, and was a family more to her than any biological family member ever could've been to her. She felt as though her real family was on the Seahawk. They were here bigger brothers and she was their little sister. They loved each other and looked out for each other. Hope this helps!
