Islamics Celebrate New Year On November 15th .
On New Years Day
It is when we celebrate that a year has gone by, that means we celebrate it on January 1st.
It's like Christmas for us. It's not our holiday to celebrate. We have our own New Year as we have a lunar calender, this means our New Year (and months) depend on the moon. So, our New Years aren't on the same day every year if you compare it to the Christian calender. In the Islamic calender they are on the same day.
We celebrate Easter, Christmas, New Years Eve, New Years Day, Bonfire Night and Halloween, some people also celebrate Lent and Thanksgiving but not that many.

Russians open their gifts on new years day, Santa Claus comes after new years eve. They don't celebrate Christmas, they celebrate new year.
We celebrate the solemnity of Mary because its is a sacred day of obligation and completes part of Christmas and new years day.
It is typically sung on New Years Eve and New Years day to celebrate the change from past to the future.
