Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) generally observe Sunday as the Sabbath - the day of rest. They draw this teaching from Acts 20:7 and the fact that Jesus Christ was resurrected on the first day of the week (see Mark 16:9)

However, in areas of the world where a Saturday sabbath is widely observed (cf, Israel), the Saints join the surrounding community and observe a Saturday sabbath, in keeping with Jesus' teaching that the Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.

The Saints believe that the day of observation is less important than the practice of observation.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) does not release membership statistics for cities, only for states. So we don't know exact the Mormon population of Salt Lake City in 2004, but it was probably around 30-40%. The city itself has quite a low Mormon population compared to the rest of the state.

How was social life on the Mormon trial?

Along the Mormon Trail, people tried hard to keep their spirits up despite the rough conditions. During the day they often sang while they walked, and during the evenings they would have music and dancing. Sundays they would usually rest for the day to hold worship services and visit with each other.

When did the Mormon Church and the Ladder Day Saints Join?

They never joined. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the official name of the church. Mormon is just a nickname that happens to be more widely known than the actual name. The name "Mormon" was given to the Church by their enemies, meant to mock them for their belief in the Book of Mormon. Latter-day Saint, LDS, and Mormon are interchangeable.
