It is the fourth Islam pillar (in sunni view of pillars of Islam) that a Muslim should fast the month of Ramadan (the 9th month on Islamic Calendar) unless there are licit reasons not to fast the month or part of the month.
However, voluntarily Muslims are encouraged to fast Mondays and Thursdays as well as the three days of the middle of the Lunar month (called alaiyam embid).
They fast for all days of Ramadan month. Each day, they fast from dawn (first light which is around 1 1/2 before sunrise) until sunset. During fasting period, Muslims not allowed to eat, drink, do sex, or smoke. Out of the fasting period they allowed to do all what is allowed to them in normal non-fasting days.

Friday is weekly holiday for Muslims. Accordingly the work week start by wither Saturday (for those working for six days a week) or Sunday (for those working five days a week). The majority work five days/week.
