No, mechanics don't require an advanced degree. The level of training will vary depending on the shop. You will have to get training at a technical school and be certified.
You don't need a college degree, or even necessarily a highschool degree or GED to get a good mechanic job. What you do need is education and specific mechanic training. You can sometimes get this at community colleges, or better yet directly from a mechanic.
