To be the lowest grade Park Ranger (GS-05 grade), you need a BA or BS degree in just about any biology or humanities field. You may also achieve GS-05 grade by working for one year at the GS-04 grade, which are not technically park ranger jobs. The next higher grade of ranger, the GS-07, requires either a year's experience at GS-05 grade or a Master's degree. Most park rangers today also have experience volunteering or interning in the parks through organizations such as SCA (www.thesca.org).
