∙ 11y agoLincoln was the US president during the war. He took an active role in the military campaigns. He made several changes in the top army leadership and finally discovered Grant. His bold emancipation proclamation helped demoralize the South and energize the anti-slavery people in the North. Lincoln worked hard to keep up support for the war in the north. He visited the front lines on several occasions and did what he could to keep up morale among the soldiers.

∙ 8y agoAbraham Lincoln and later US President Lincoln was a strict unionist. He believed that keeping the US in tact was more important in 1860 and beyond then resolving any slavery issues. Because of his strong belief that the Union must remain united, he took the military measures to ensure that and he succeeded.
