He believed in the One true God, and then, he obeyed Him:

He believed in the One who identified Himself later as the Living God of Israel.

Then, he obeyed the spiritual version of the Torah.

The Torah, w/c was given to the Jews (Israel) for maintenance, is the written version of the spiritual version that Adam and Chavah(Eve), Hanokh(Enoch), Noakh, Avra-am, Yitzhak, Ya-akov, Yosef(+12 brothers), Moshe, and the pre-Torah(Mt. Horev) Israel followed and obeyed.

The Torah, given at the foot of Mt. Horev in Saudi Arabia (today), was given to Israel to confirm their mandate as an acceptable congregation of human believers. No other congregation, even gentile ones, may usurp this mandate. And the word is 'Abraham' not Aberham.
