The Korean War was the second modern US war. From the beginning of our country until the end of WWII, our battles / wars made sense to the masses for the most part. During WWII most Americans would do whatever they could to support the war effort. They knew why we were fighting. Things got confusing after that therefore support drop greatly probably due to confusion. Plus the Korean War was very short, it came and went.
An additional reason for home front support was four fold:
1. The US was joined by many United Nations countries;
2. In fact, the UN, approved actions designed to maintain peace; and
3. There was extensive clarity regarding the war. It was clear that North Korea had violated the borders set to separate North and South Korea; and
4. The West already knew by 1950 that communism was a real threat to world peace.
