What is the size of the destroyer in world war 11?

A destroyer is a relatively small warship, often referred to by sailors in WWII as "tin cans". They tend to give a very rough ride in heavy seas. "Destroyer" is actually short for "torpedo boat destroyer", which the class of ships originally was. With the development of self-propelled naval torpedoes around 1900, the battleships of every nation were suddenly vulnerable to attack from small, cheap, light boats equipped to launch torpedoes, spurring the counter-measure of a "torpedo boat destroyer" class. Different nations built destroyers of different sizes, but all were small. The US built 175 Fletcher class destroyers during the war, which were pretty big for a destroyer. They were about 375 feet long, 30 feet wide, and drew 13 feet of water. The crew was about 275. The preceding US class of destroyers was the Gleaves class, about 350 feet long, 36 feet wide, and also drawing 13 feet of water, with a slightly smaller crew. Sixty-two Gleaves class destroyers were built. The class after the Fletcher class was the Sumner class, about 375 feet long, 41 feet wide, and drawing nearly 16 feet of water, with a crew of around 350. Fifty-eight Sumner class destroyers were built. The Navy operated several earlier classes of destroyers, especially in the early days of the war, including the old "four pipers" mothballed since WWI. Fifty of these "four pipers" were transferred to Great Britain before the US became involved actively in the war, in a controversial move for a "neutral" nation.

What is 1951 battle of Britain coin worth?

There was no "Battle of Britain" 50 Pence coin issued. Perhaps you refer to the 1994 "50th Anniversary of the Normandy Landing (D-Day)" 50 Pence coin. I have to point out that as I type this I have a "Battle of Britain 1940" fifty pence coin in my hand, so either I have a forged coin or Mr Lewis is incorrect in his assertion that no such coin exists.

What was the destroyers for based deal?

In 1940, Great Britain and the United States made a "destroyers for bases" agreement that saw fifty destroyer-vessels pass into the hands of Great Britain in exchange for American access to (and some control over) various bases located around the world. This agreement provided much-needed help to Great Britain, as it was the only opponent of the Axis at the time and was suffering especially from the German submarine campaign against its merchant shipping.

What did the British give the US in return for the old American destroyers?

The British gave leases on military installations in Great Britain, Bermuda & Newfoundland, hence the name Lend-Lease. As the question implies, the fifty American destroyers were old and obsolete, but they were needed, and one of them was put to good use for the Saint-Nazaire raid. It is endlessly debatable which country got the better end of this deal.

Describe two actions the US took to support the allies?

Roosevelt sought a few ways to help the allies. For instance, he asked Congress to withdraw the neutrality law which banned the sale of arms to countries occupied in war. Although some isolationists blocked his move, FDR still managed to make a compromise that the United States could sell arms to the Allies under the "cash-and-carry" plan. The "cash-and-carry" plan was that the allies had to pay cash for the goods and carry them on their own ships. Another way the United States helped the allies was the fifty old American war ships. By 1940, German submarines took down many British ships. When they needed help, President Roosevelt agreed to give then fifty old American destroyers. Once again, there was a catch in this move. In exchange for the fifty old American destroyers, Britain gave the United States 99-year leases on military bases in Newfoundland and the Caribbean.
