Attachment is suffering, so lack of attachments would end human suffering. It's more complex than that, but that's the gist of it.

Answer:

In the Four Noble Truths suffering is linked to desire. Desire is wanting things beyond need (it is acceptable to want food when you are hungry, but not to want yet another piece of cake when you are at the end of a meal)

This desire can be connected to wanting wealth, power, intoxication, beauty, luxury, revenge - a whole list of things.

Ending suffering is linked to shedding desire as a way of life. This can be done by following the Eightfold Path. Contrary to countless Hollywood B Movies this does not MIT a person to just eating rice, meditating on a cold mountain top or talking like a fortune cookie. A person who has adopted the Eightfold Path as his road map to living is content, happy, a good friend and many other positive things.

Not really. The eightfold path consists of right understanding, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. If aperson were to follow these suggestions he might be able to acheive understanding and enlightenment. The Path is not however magic.
