An early theory describing properties of atoms
New System of Chemical Philosophy
John Dalton began his scientific work in his early twenties. He started teaching and conducting experiments around 1793, and by 1803, he had formulated his atomic theory, which laid the groundwork for modern chemistry. Dalton was about 27 years old when he began to publish his significant findings.
Joseph Proust, based on experiments conducted at the end of the 18th Century claimed that elements combined in constant proportions. Dalton's atomic theory, (1903) built on this earlier work and put it into a theoretic framework.
John Dalton "discovered" color blindness after he was looking at a Pelargonium zonale(a kind of flower). Dalton saw the flower as blue, whereas it is in actuality, pink. Dalton noted this fact in 1792
John Dalton published his atomic theory in 1808, proposing that all matter is made up of small, indivisible particles called atoms. He also introduced the concept of atomic weight and the idea that elements are made up of atoms of a single, unique type.
