He created the first breed of indigenous Jamaican cattle which was the Jamaican Hope. He used this breed as a basis for his Ph.D. thesis from the extensive research he had done in 1951 on cattle. Further research resulted in the creation of the Jamaican Brahman, the Jamaican Red and the Jamaican Black. Dr. Lecky also made it a passion and a career to teach young people of Jamaica about agriculture and farming and to encourage more agriculture in his home country of Jamaica, among other things.
