Because of its "heroic" ability to relieve pain, they called it heroin. Yes, heroin is about twice is strong as morphine. However, it's not a legal pain medication. Legal pain medications that are stronger than morphine include methadone and fentanyl. There is a safe medication that is 6x stronger than morphine, its called Dilaudid. It is used to treat terminally ill cancer patients.
