Esau and Jacob were brothers, so grew up together. Therefore, they 'met' on several occasions obviously. A few times, in particular, are mentioned in The Bible, however.

1. Once when Esau came in from the fields and met Jacob cooking stew. Esau, who lacked spiritual appreciation, basically sold his 'birth right' to Jacob for 'lunch'(Genesis 25:30/Hebrews 12:16), viewing his spiritual responsibility as of little value(Genesis 25:27-34). Even though he later regretted his actions (again because of the physical losses it brought), his attitude lost him God's approval(Hebrews 12:17)(Malachi 1:2+3).

Esau continued to be self-willed, as was prophesied about him(Romans 9:6-12). He showed his lack of spirituality by choosing pagan Hittite women as wives, which hurt his parents, Isaac and Rebekah (Genesis 26:34+35). A further breech occurred between the brothers when Isaac refused to give Esau his blessing after discovering that Esau had callously and legally 'sold' this 'birth right' to Jacob (Genesis 25:31-34).

2. Another 'meeting' is mentioned scripturally at Genesis 32:6-12. Esau harbored a hatred for his brother for years(Genesis 27:41-Genesis 28:9) and apparently wanted to make a show of force against him some time later, taking 400 men with him against Jacob. Jacob was afraid because he knew how his brother felt toward him, and he prayed fervently to make wise decisions(Genesis 32:9-12). He then put his familly in a safe place, went ahead of them and worked hard in harmony with his prayer, softening his brother's attitude by sending gifts, and humbling himself before him (Genesis 32:6, 7, 10-15, 20-21; Genesis 33:1-9, 11-16). This softened the situation(Genesis 33:4/Proverbs 6:3/Proverbs 15:1) and the brothers reunited and were together to bury their parents ( Genesis 35:29).

Why did esau have to ask Jacob for food?

Jacob and Esau have a rough history. It was prophesied that Jacob would be the ruler of the nation and Esau would be Jacob's servant. The bible says that Jacob and Esau have been fighting ever since birth. After Esau had been working on the fields and was very tired, Jacob offered him a bowl of soup for his birthright. Esau had sold him the birthright for a bowl of soup. Jacob then deceived Isaac into giving him the blessing of the firstborn. Jacob then fled to his brother Laban's house. Esau was very angry with Jacob because he no longer had power in his family, Jacob had taken everything from Esau. Esau's bitter hatred for Jacob lasted for a long time.
