If you mean Washington DC, Maryland is directly north. If you mean the State of Washington, you will find Canada to the north.

Washington is a name. It has no meaning in Spanish.

Especially the part of Washington State east of the Cascade Mountains, as there has been considerable glacier activity there in history, and many riverbeds created by the flood when Lake Missoula let go have deeper spots where water stays. An excellent example of this is Banks Lake.
