Washington was called the father of his country for a good reason. He is undoubtedly the one single person who did the most to create the United States of America. He was a leader in the Independence movement, commanded the army that won the war for independence, contributed to the writing and ratification of the Constitution and served as the first US president, establishing the many precedents that defined the office.
