Henry the VIII was originally a very active and healthy youth, however he had a jousting accident sometime shortly before the end of his second marriage which left him with a limp. Henry also suffered from gout during his later years which caused him much pain. He sometimes even needed assistance to mount his own horse, or stand up from the throne.
