Hundreds of letters were sent to authorities from people claiming to know Jack the Ripper or claiming to be Jack the Ripper. They were all probably fake, but one was sent along with a human kidney and could have actually been from the murderer. Or it could have come from a medical student with a stupid sense of humor.

Previous Answer: there were 2 fake letters what impersonantors wrote and 1 real one from the real jack the ripper.

Of the hundreds of letters that were sent to Scotland Yard in the wake of the Ripper crimes, only a handful were deemed authentic. But many of those letters were materials that an artist would have. Resin, art pencils, ect. In the 2002 book, Jack The Ripper Case Closed, author Patricia Cornwell had those 'bogus' letters, cards, and drawings analyzed and they were consistant with the Impressionist Victorian painter named Walter R. Sickert. Anyone who knew Sickert would know how much he loved to write letters to friends, buisinesses, and most of the newspapers. He could write dozens of letters just to newspapers in one day.

There were hundreds of letters claiming to be Jack the Ripper but the most famous are the Dear Boss letter, The Saucy Jack letter, and the From Hell letter he also sent half of a human kidney with the from hell letter which he claimed to have fried and eaten but these letters were never proven to be the actual killer but it is strongly believed that the from hell letter actual was him because of the diffrent writing style, kidney, signature (it wasnt signed Jack the Ripper because that was what most of the fakes signed it) and the date which was just a few hours before one of the murders. Hope i helped.

During the Autumn of Terror hundreds of letters were sent to the police and local press purporting to be written by the Whitechapel fiend. Most of them were deemed to be fakes written by either newspaper men trying to start a story or fools trying to incite more terror. Many Ripperologists believe them all to be hoaxes. The "Saucy Jacky" Postcard was received on October 1st, 1888 at the Central News Agency. The handwriting is similar to that of the "Dear Boss" letter, and makes direct reference to both this letter and the murders of the previous night. Those who believe it to be genuine argue that the removal of Eddowes's ear (it was not taken away, nor mailed to the police) and the fact that the postcard mentions the double-event before it was described by the press both testify to its authenticity. Others believe a hoaxer could have gleaned details of both the previous letter and the murders in an early morning paper of October 1st.

All but a few of the notes and letters received by Scotland Yard and members of the press were deemed to be faked. Although there are differing opinions on this subject and probably always will be. The main letters were the Saucy Jack postcard, The Dear Boss letter, and the From Hell letter. He also sent half of a human kidney with the From Hell letter

Hundreds of letters were sent to police during the investigation of the Ripper murders, so it would be impossible to reprint them all in this format. There are several that have stood the test of time and are considered to be from the actual killer. The Dear Boss and Lusk letters are thought to be genuine depending on who you ask. The general content is that of a bragging killer toying with authorities, common enough behavior in some serial killers.
