Genesis 27:36
And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?
a supplanter is one who takes the place or moves into the position of another. Read the story of Issac's sons, Jacob and Esau. Jacob was known as the supplanter for what he perpetrated on Esau.
Your are probably referring to Jacob and Esau. They were twins born to Isaac and Rebekah. God chose Jacob to continue the Hebrew (Israel) race and He rejected Esau. Esau became the "father" of the Edomite's. They would be distant cousins of Israel. To read of the fascinating story of Jacob and Esau see Genesis, chapter 27.
Esau was older than Jacob. Esau was born first, with Jacob being his younger twin brother.
Esau
Jake is a nickname for Jacob. Jacob is Hebrew for "The Supplanter".
Esau and Jacob fought over the birthright blessing, which was traditionally given to the firstborn son in their culture. Jacob, the younger brother, tricked Esau into selling him his birthright.
Jews say that Esau sold his birthright to Jacob
Jacob was Esau's twin brother.(Genesis 25:24-26)
Christians say that Esau sold his birthright to Jacob
Jacob tricked his brother Esau as described in Genesis 25:29-34 where Esau sold his birthright to his Jacob in exchange for a meal.
The father of Jacob and Esau was Isaac, whom were borne by his wife Rebekah.
Genesis 25:25-27 (New King James Version - NKJV)25 And the first came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over; so they called his name Esau. 26 Afterward his brother came out, and his hand took hold of Esau's heel; so his name was called Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them. 27 So the boys grew. And Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field; but Jacob was a mild man, dwelling in tents.Jacob means literally - "heel catcher" or "supplanter". God later changed his name to Israel, which means - "he will rule as God". - Genesis 32:28ya'akov (יעקב) means "he will follow"When Rebekah gave birth to her two sons, Esau emerged first and Jacob followed taking hold of his brothers heel (Genesis 25:26). He was called Jacob which means 'supplanter.' The name Jacob may either mean 'He who grasps at the heel (of another) or 'He (the Lord) is at his heels (is his protector).'
