How did the British feel about guerrilla warfare during the American Revolutionary War?
During the revolutionary War (1775-1783) the British Army considered Americans to be cowards and acting in an un-gentlemanly manner, by deploying such tactics (guerilla warfare). Guerilla war was dirty fighting and un-civilized. Yes, it depends on which war is referred to. The Spanish Guerillos in the Peninsular war were a very big thorn in the side of the French invaders in the Napoleonic wars, aiding Wellingtons campaign more than the regular Spanish forces ever did. I suppose the Chindits of WW2 in Burma might well be considered Guerillas, against the Japanese. Guerilla is spanish for little war.
Why was it so important that West Virginias eastern panhandle remain to the Union?
Answer Because West Virginia was a salient flanking the border of eastern Kentucky and that of western Pennsylvania controlled the southeastern bank of Ohio river in front of the Ohio State. Although very poor in infrastructures and resources it was important for its lead mines and would represent a strategic thorn in the side for the Union. Its decision of seceding from Virginia was a major victory for the Union because the strategic importance of the "salient" turned in favour of the Union Army, which could better control the events in Kentucky and by means of few forces keep at bay the (improbable) Confederate actions starting from Virginia to regain the panhandle due to the great difficulty for an army to get through the Appalachians.

Germany separated by the Berlin Wall into two parts for awhile, but then eventually got back together when they broke down the wall after several years. The USSR defeated Germany, and they took over the eastern part of Germany. Because the people in this part were poor, and became poorer because of the Russians, they wanted to escape to the richer western part, where the US, France and Britain took over. The USSR dind't want to lose their population, so they first built a border through Germany, later in 1964 they built the Berlin Wall. In 1989 the Wall and the border got pulled down and Germany was reunited. (I'm from Germany, by the way.) Berlin wall - was not built in 1964, but in August 1961. It was built at this time because the Russians were taking advantage of the total collapse of foreign policy by the USA Kennedy administration. Despite being very photogenic personally, Kennedy's foreign policy was a disaster. The Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba came closer to causing a nuclear war than any other event. This fiasco in April 1961 was correctly seen by the Soviets as American weakness and disorganization. They acted immediately by building the Berlin wall, something they had not dared try during the Eisenhower years. The N Vietnamese became more aggressive. The Soviets began arming various Arab nations. The Kennedy years, gratefully short, albiet tragic, created havoc throughout the world. His administration began the USA involvement in Vietnam, the most catastrophic American foreign involvement since WW1, its ramifications still echoing today. The lack of Kennedy's resolve in dealing with Cuba and Berlin led the Soviets to later solidify their hold on eastern Europe in 1968. Castro became a thorn in the USA side that is still being dealt with today, over forty years later. As for Germany, the nation was divided, plundered, and generally destroyed as a world power. Twenty percent of the land was appropriated by Poland. Millions of peaceable civilians were murdered or made homeless by their vengeful neighbors in Poland, Russia, France, Bohemia and other areas. Today, the German economy has recovered and the people are mostly prosperous. However Germany has no effective voice in world affairs. Their basic industries are to a large extent owned by foreign monies. The power vacuum left by the collapse of power in Central Europe, which has since been followed by a collapse of Soviet power, has led to a mishmash of tiny independent states running from the English Channel to the western border of China. Lacking the ability to control affairs on their own the Germans have turned to influencing the European Union as a vehicle to promote their culture and power.
