Roald Dahl wrote letters to his mother while in boarding school. She kept them and gave them back to him as an adult. He turned these into a book called Boy: Tales of Childhood. After being sent home from World War II from being injured in a plane crash, he wrote about his experiences. They were published in Saturday Evening Post as "Shot Down Over Libya."
