The spirit shows Scrooge the young boy Ebenezer, alone and neglected at school during the Christmas holidays, longing for some warmth and companionship. Scrooge realizes the impact of his own childhood experiences on his personality and actions in the present.
The spirit first took Scrooge to the little town where he spent his childhood, seeing familiar places and faces that stirred up memories from his past.
The Ghost of Christmas Past takes Scrooge to his childhood home where he relives memories from his past, including moments spent at school and with his sister, Fan.

To take Scrooge back home for Christmas
Scrooge coped with the pain of his childhood and youth by becoming overly focused on accumulating wealth and distancing himself from personal relationships. This allowed him to create a barrier between himself and his past traumas, but it also left him isolated and bitter. Through his experiences with the spirits in "A Christmas Carol," Scrooge is able to confront his pain and begin to heal.
Because others around him were allowed home to be with family at holiday time. He however was forced to stay at boarding school.

Scrooge initially feels excitement and joy when the ghost of Christmas Present visits him. The ghost takes Scrooge to various places, including the house of Bob Cratchit and the home of Scrooge's nephew, Fred.
