He was Pharaoh of Egypt after he killed his brother Osiris. He cut him up into pieces before hiding them in 14 differnet locations. Osiris' wife Isis recovered the body parts and put them together to make the first mummy.

Seth, or Set, definitely has a strange and checkered past. He is sometimes considered the embodiment of evil. He killed Osiris, chopped up the body and spread it all over the world so that Osiris could never be brought back to life. He is the god of storms and chaos. He is also the god for foreigners and was originally the main Egyptian god. He also protected Ra during the night. Different people worshiped him for different reasons. Some probably liked his dark ways. Others liked the fact that he was the got of foreigners, perhaps they felt a kinship with him.

He was a god. Despite what you may have heard, he has been depicted as being evil, however, most Egyptian gods have a positive and a negative side to them. Unfortunately, after he killed his brother Osiris because his lover had a child, Anubis, fathered by Osiris, most of his positive traits were forgotten.
