St. Nicholas was a bishop in Myra, a city in what is now Modern Turkey. He spent a number of years in prison for being a Christian. Once he was released he continued his work as a bishop. He was very generous, often dropping money secretly into homes of the needy through windows or the fireplace. He is said to have brought three murdered young boys back to life that had been killed and stuffed into a barrel of brine.
