The question makes an inaccurate assumption. Winston Churchill did NOT 'enter World War 2'. It was Neville Chamberlain (of appeasement repute) who took Britain to war in 1939. When Churchill took over as prime minister in May 1940, Britain had already been at war for several months.
He was never a general as far as I am aware. He was a soldier and politician. Specifically, during WWII he was initially First Lord of the Admiralty, which is almost like being the highest ranked general of the British Navy I suppose but not really (1939-40), then Prime Minister (1940-45).
This is a list of position he had held in the British government.
· Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies, 1905-1908
· President of the Board of Trade, 1908-1910
· Secretary of State for the Home Department, 1910-1911
· First Lord of the Admiralty, 1911-1915, 1939-1940
· Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, 1915
· Minister of Munitions, 1917-1919
· Secretary of State for War and Air, 1919-1921
· Secretary of State for the Colonies, 1921-1922
· Chancellor of the Exchequer, 1924-1929
· Prime Minister, 1940-1945, 1951-1955
· Minister of Defence, 1940-1945, 1951-1952
Churchill was a very important figure. Previously Neville Chamberlain was pm, but after appeasing Germany with the Sudentland, Churchill took over. From there Churchill led the British through WW2. The real Churchill (in my opinion) actually comes after or near the end of WW2 where he is part of the Big 3 with FDR and Stalin.
His key aims were: *To defend Britain *To destroy Nazism
As Prime Minister of England, Winston Churchill helped draft the treaty to close the surrender of the Nazi's under Hitler's rule which divided Germany for post WWII.
