This question can refer to the First and or Second World War. The aftermath of the First was Germany viewed as the humiliating terms of surrender under the Treaty of Versailles. The Second involved the partition and military occupation of Germany after 1945. Those Nazis that escaped trials and arrest were hunted, the chief example of which was Eichmann who was captured by the Israelis in South America.
