The colony was located in a Native American empire of 14,000 so he knew there were Native Americans. He was very unpopular with the men of his command. In fact, he was so unpopular they tried to kill him. While sleeping gun powder was sprinkled on him and lit. He got severe burns and had to go home. He was a rake and lied about what he did in his book.

John Smith was saved from death by Pocohanes, daughter of the Indian Cheif. But the did not fall in love like Disney Pixar says they are dumbies, it was a different. She really gets around, with the eye for Johns.
