Knights never farmed, as they were higher on the social ladder. The jobs of tending the farm was given to peasants and other lower classes.
They were usually farm workers.

Knights were peasants' overlords. Peasants owed them service (they would farm and work for them) in return for their land. Peasants were effected by what kind of overlord the Knight was, whether he was fighting, meaning he was away, or saving up to go on crusade, meaning he might need more money.

A medieval farm worker was typically a peasant who worked on a lord's estate in exchange for protection and a plot of land to farm. They performed various tasks such as plowing, planting, harvesting, and tending to livestock to support their family and the feudal system. Serfs, who were little better than slaves!MoreI would have to disagree that they were little better than slaves. For example, they had a right to a place to live and fields to farm, and could not be evicted without due cause. If the land was sold, the new owner had to respect their rights to use it. They had a right to be protected. In many places, the reeve was elected by the serfs. And in many places, if they left, they were considered free after a year. Please see the links below.
