Serfs wore tunics rather like those used in ancient Rome, at the beginning. In many northern areas, they added breeches. With the passing of time it was breeches and short tunics, then shirts.
Middle class people wore much the same sort of thing much of the time, but always wanted to appear better off than they were and wanted to look like lords and ladies, so they went in for better clothes. Unfortunately for them, there were sumptuary laws prohibiting them from actually copying the fashions of the nobility, so they could not wear the same fine jewelry, fur lined clothes, or silks.
There is a link below to a related question, "What were medieval fashions like?" and there are links from that to articles on the subject.
if you were in the high, rich classes than men wore a hose or a long jacket and long, pointy shoes. if u were a poor or a really low class than u barely had much of a chice. it was either a towel or an old cloth.
Second answer: The above is somewhere between incomplete and inaccurate.
Men's clothing started with a knee length breeches worn as an undergarment, somewhat similar to baggy boxer shorts. Over this would go hose, essentially socks that cover the entire leg. (this is the source of the hideous tights that show up in so many Hollywood movies, but hose are not tights. They are more like a leg length sock.) The next layer would be a shirt that passed the waste but would likely stop before or at the knee. This shirt was usually linen and considered an undergarment. A tunic of similar length went over the shirt, which was probably made of wool and gathered at the waste with a belt. Hats were common, and gloves were available for either cold weather or rough work. Shoes were simple and crafted of leather, including the sole, and had to be frequently repaired or replaced. In colder weather an additional layer was added, such as a sircoat or mantle.
The clothing of rich and poor was differentiated more by material and adornment than style. The clothing of a peasant was made of basic fabrics, while the clothing of the rich might be trimmed with furs and jewels, but the basic styles were similar.
