Many people believe in such things; some call it magic, some call it religion, some call it superstition. It's the same mindset that leads people to be sucked in to paying lots of money towards scams that promise happiness.

Also normally those that do not believe in magic believe this because they believe that if they are unable to do magic then it cannot be real. If you are a true believer in magic and believe that it is real then don't let others change your mind, you are free to think whatever you like and if you let others change your mind then you are there for letting them change the way you think. Always stick to what you belief in as with a little imagination and believe you can accomplish anything.

Magic is a force that people have to believe in. Like religion, it is faith-based. Magic is very old, and it has always been spread by word-of-mouth. People tell other people and convince them of the power of the magic and they believe and tell other people. Magic does not work on people who do not believe that it has power, so it is not possible to cast a spell on someone who has not first been convinced that the spell will work. For this reason magic can only spread as fast as belief in that magic spreads. If belief fails, as has happened in modern cultures, then magic will fail too, and its spread is halted.

Some people believe that magic is in people's eyes but actually most know that magic still is very unknown to people and some are afraid of it because of stereotypes. Scientists think the gut feeling evolved in our ancestors as a primitive method of germ avoidance so it is hard for them to believe in it.
