People ate the same basic foods they eat now. However, there were no frozen foods, so fruits and vegetables had to be eaten in season or canned. People did not have home refrigerators so meat had to be fresh killed or cured like ham.

Bread was baked fresh daily since they did not add preservatives. Junk food as we know it today did not exist. People tended to eat what their parents ate, so there was not as much variety in what people cooked.
