In 1066 the world was a very different place than it is today. No lights, no heat, no stores to buy ready made items. Everything had to be hunted, grown, or made. Mainly the people of 1066 lived a life of survival. The average life span was 30 years old and many died of disease or in war/invasions. A good percentage were surfs and owned nothing, but they had to toil over lands owned by another man to get a place to live. When he wanted to go to war they had to join his army and even in death they still owed taxes.
