The real name of Hazrat Salman Farsi was Ruzbeh. He later became known as Salman Al-Farsi after converting to Islam and joining the companions of the Prophet Muhammad.
Salman al-Farisi became a slave when he was captured during a battle between the Persian and Byzantine empires. He was eventually sold into slavery, ending up in Medina where he met the Prophet Muhammad and embraced Islam.
