The Separation of Powers was brought into play by the Framer's of the Constitution of the United States. They wanted to make sure that no individual branch has absolute power of every other branch. They made sure that the Judicial Branch has the right to declare any rights to be unconstitutional. The Legislative Branch can impeach both the President and any Justices they feel are having misconduct of the way they are supposed to be working [Lying (Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton)]. The Legislative are also allowed to declare war even though the President is the Commander in Chief. The Executive Branch consists of the President, Vice-President, and the President's Cabinet Members. The Executive Branch is allowed to approve/sign or veto bills proposed by Congress. The President can appoint Justices.
All in all, the Separation of Powers was put in play in order to create a strong Federal Government and no branch had dominate power.
