its true that many didn't eat them straight from the fruit. Many people didn't know what to do with them and so some used them as a tang for food, a primitive febreeze and some medicines. They were expensive and were brought from the Middle East by crusaders. Only rich people could afford lemons also, as they were from very far away

Lemons were not used much during the Middle Ages, lemon cultivation started in Genoa at the end of this era.
