Nothing was done until the U.S. was drawn into WWII. At that point, the Allies slowly destroyed the Axis powers and eventually marched across Germany. The end of the Holocaust was a bye-product of the Allied victory. None of the Allies did anything specifically aimed at stopping the Holocaust. The U.S. and Britain didn't want to know about the Holocaust. That said, there was no "miracle solution". However, they could have tried to bomb the railways near the extermination camps and could have asked resistance groups to give a high priority to disrupting the Holocaust, for example by stopping trains on their way to Auschwitz and other camps and freeing the prisoners. In reality, stopping the Holocaust didn't figure anywhere on any of the Allies' priorities. Auschwitz III (Monowitz) was bombed by the USAAF because it was producing chemicals, not because of its role in the Holocaust.

The Allies did not completely stop the holocaust. Most of the Jews and other people who Hitler did not consider "pure" were killed. But when the Allies finally did find the first death camp or concentration camp they freed all inside that were still alive. They did that to all the death camps and the commanders of the camps were put on trial for war crimes in Israel. The last commander found was Adolf Eichmann. The Mossad (Israel Intelligence Agency) kidnapped him from his work. he stood trial and said what all the other commanders said. "Orders are orders, I was just doing what I was told to do." He was executed on June 1, 1962.

One thing that they did do, which was done by many groups/countries was that they would preempt Nazi dictates in the hope of preventing similar decrees being made. This was not an act of active resistance, but the philosphy benind it was that if they could make it look like they would be willing subjects, then they could avoid the harshness that they had seen elsewhere.

How can you prevent another Holocaust in the future?

we can prevent another holocaust by not getting into hatred, not discriminating or being racist. If the Nazis realized everyone was equeal there wouldn't have been a first holocaust. And if we learn at an early age about how Hitler and the Nazi regime hated on Jews, maybe it will teach kids a lesson on how not to descriminate, be racist, or anything like that.
