land
Manifest Destiny was the belief that the general population during the early years of America held. They thought it was destined by God for America to stretch from ocean to ocean. So, the American government bought and fought for the remaining land that separated the US from the pacific, gaining land from Mexico, France, England, and a few other countries. The government used propaganda and advertising to gain the interest of the American people and convince them to move westward, thus a huge migration of people moved west in order to conquer the virgin land and complete manifest destiny.
In order for Manifest Destiny to be complete, the US had to obtain land in the American Southwest which, at the time, belonged to Mexico.
Manifest destiny meant that it was the God-given right for Americans to settle the land from sea to shining sea. It was the "responsibility" of Americans to gain the valuable natural resources that the land had to offer. Manifest Destiny took place from about 1820-1860, and then Homesteading began. Americans moved west from all different lifestyles, places, and even countries to obey "God's Command", to pursue religious freedom, and sometimes just to do something new, daring, exciting, and adventurous. The new settlers migrated mostly in covered wagons called "Prairie Schooners". The men, women, and children walked most of the time to help save the oxen's strength. Pioneers endured harsh conditions and left behind their former lives to pursue manifest destiny. Although there are many accounts of the hardships that the settlers faced, they were causing hardships for another group of people. The Native Americans had to face new diseases and new people on the land that was always theirs. They were forced off of their land so that manifest destiny could be continued. Manifest destiny was helped along by the Oregon Trail, the Railroad, Mountain Men, The Independence of Texas and the war with Mexico. What the people involved in manifest destiny did so long ago has helped shape who we are as a country today.

Attempts to gain land based on the idea of Manifest Destiny
Manifest Destiny influenced Us Expansion since it gave the United State's citizens a goal to work towards. This made us more hostile towards other countries in North America and therefor allowed for us to be able to take up the lands that create the united states in a number of ways. While we did not rid all other influences from North America The United States did gain a lot of territory because of Manifest Destiny.
