How did manifest destiny come into play in the Mexican war?

During the late 1940's the United States were still expanding due to the belief of Manifest Destiny, the idea that it was fated for the US to possess the entire North America continent. Under this belief America continued to expand all the way to the shores of the Pacific Ocean and during this time Mexico owned what is now Texas. In simple, America believed that Texas was part of the Manifest Destiny of America and went to war with Mexico to gain that land.

Keep in mind that this war occurred after the annexation of Texas and the Texas revolution, many people forget this and get them mixed up.

Mexico took Texas, and we thought that because it was kind of in our slip of land that it should be ours. This led to the mexican-american war. The first few battles texas lost by a lot. Eventually texas became and independent state. It then joined our country.
